Award-winning investigative reporter and broadcaster Gary Matsumoto won the 2008 Business Emmy for "Outstanding Investigative Reporting of a Business News Story--News Magazines and Long Form" with his program "401(k) Hidden Fees." It was Bloomberg Television's first Emmy in any category. The program exposed the hidden fees embedded in 401(k)s and other employer-sponsored pre-tax savings plans. Matsumoto found one company whose employees thought they were paying 401(k) fees that amounted to one-tenth of one percent. They were paying closer to 3.6 percent - 36 times more. Matsumoto, reported, directed, produced and wrote the half-hour program. • When a person will say, well my company is matching my contributions - so where are those matching dollars coming from?

 

• If the company or union is getting kick-backs from the company managing your 401(k), 403(b) or other tax qualified plan then are the contributions really coming from the hidden fees they do not have to disclose to you?

 

• In reality, are YOU the one really matching YOUR contributions?
